The Sound Healing Retreat
What to Expect
The retreat is intentionally spacious. Each day has a rhythm, with structured training and practice.
Every morning begins with yoga, followed by breakfast together and a slow start to the day.
Days are centred around the Sound Practitioner Certification, with hands-on learning, demonstrations, instrument practice, and time to design and facilitate your own sessions.
Afternoons include supervised Practice Lab sessions, with breaks and time outside built into the day.
Evenings slow down again with dinner, sound journeys, time by the water, and a Full Moon ceremony.
The schedule is intentionally unhurried, giving you time to actually absorb what you’re learning and enjoy being on Bowen Island.
Sound Practitioner Certification
This retreat combines the foundational and advanced Mystic Meditations curriculum into one comprehensive, CMA-accredited Sound Practitioner Certification, with a strong emphasis on hands-on practice and supervised facilitation.
The curriculum brings together sound, music, nervous system education, trauma-informed practice and practical facilitation. Work from this approach has been presented through the International Sound Therapy Association and published through the Wellness Alliance.
You’ll study the science of sound and the nervous system, including how the auditory system processes sound and how rhythm, repetition, frequency, volume, predictability and silence can influence attention, arousal and regulation.
You’ll work extensively with crystal singing bowls and other therapeutic instruments, learning playing techniques, mallet selection, dynamics, pacing, layering, transitions, resonance, proximity and intentional instrument placement.
The training includes music theory specifically for sound practitioners, exploring notes and how different bowls and frequencies interact. No previous music theory background is required.
A major part of the curriculum focuses on session design and sound architecture. You’ll learn how to build a complete session from arrival through deepening, integration and return, how to work with density and repetition, when to introduce silence, how to create smooth transitions and how to make intentional choices rather than simply moving from instrument to instrument.
You’ll also study trauma-informed and nervous-system-aware facilitation, including fight, flight and freeze responses, signs of regulation and overwhelm, choice and consent, reading the room, responding to strong reactions, practitioner scope, ethics, boundaries and creating conditions that support safety.
Throughout the retreat, a significant amount of time is dedicated to practice. You’ll play, experiment, build sound sequences, facilitate for other students, observe different approaches, receive feedback and practice leading complete sessions.
The goal is to leave knowing more than how to play beautiful instruments. You’ll understand why you are making particular choices, how to structure a session intentionally, what to look for in the people you are facilitating, and how to work with sound responsibly and confidently.
